FIRST GRADE CURRICULUM

Each child is a child of God - unique and special in his/her own way. With this in mind, the first grade teacher helps each child reach his/her potential by nurturing his/her God given talents by meeting the individual needs of each student.

Catholic values are integrated in all subject areas.

Faith Formation:
In Religion the children learn about God's never ending love for them and how to be little "apostles" and share God's love with others.
The Saints come alive on All Saints Day when the first graders present their annual All Saints program.

Integrated Language Arts:
The students share their creative ideas through daily "Kid Writing" and learn sentence structure, punctuation, grammar, phonics, and spelling.
The students develop reading strategies and skills to develop comprehension and critical thinking. They are introduced to a variety of genre and respond to literature through drawing, creative writing, acting out stories or plays and participating in group discussion.

Math:
Hands on learning is evident through the use of manipulatives to develop Math concepts.
Our curriculum provides the opportunity for whole group learning and small, teacher guided groups.

Students are encouraged to become independent thinkers and workers and the future leaders of tomorrow!
