ABOUT FATHER MESSNER:

Father Messner joined Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in August, 2009.  He was born in Harrisburg, and grew up in the coal region.  His home Parish is Our Lady Help of Christians in Lykens, Pennsylvania.

Father Messner attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he received a B.S. in Secondary Education and an M.A. in Student Personnel Services.  He attended Saint Vincent Seminary in Latrobe from 1993 to 1998, and in 1998 he received his Master of Divinity degree.  He was ordained on June 6, 1998.  Father has completed further studies at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

In 1994, when Father Messner was on his first summer assignment as a seminarian, he was stationed in Lancaster at Saint Joseph Church and worked with Monsignor Thomas Smith.

After his ordination, Father Messner's first assignment was as Parochial Vicar at Saint Francis Xavier Church in Gettysburg.  He served there from 1998 to 2001.  From 2001 to 2004, Father was in residence at Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Harrisburg.  While in residence there, Father Messner was given assignments in the Diocesan Tribunal and the Office of Vocations.

Father's next assignment was as Parochial Vicar at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Mechanicsburg.  He only served there for one year.  In 2005, Father received his first assignment as a Pastor at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Abbotstown where he served from 2005 to 2009.  Father Messner has also served as the Chaplain at Trinity High School, Delone Catholic High School and currently he is Chaplain at Franklin & Marshall College.

Father Messner enjoys working on the New York Times Crossword Puzzles, likes to read and has an interest in photography.  He also likes to relax and watch football and basketball games.
