Eighth Grade Curriculum

Religion:

The class will study the history of the Catholic Church.

They will research the life of their Confirmation Saint as well as grow in understanding of the role of the Sacraments in their lives.

Integrated Language Arts:

Students will work on their writing skills both as research and essay writing.

They will explore various genres of literature both fiction and non-fiction.

Grammar will be an important part of their weekly work including diagramming sentences.

Social Studies:

The year’s work will focus on the geography and cultures of countries around the world. Students will learn about the important geographic features of the world and the effects of them on economies and societies. They will do reports on several countries as well as participate in the research on National History Day.

Science:

The Eighth grade Science curriculum includes Physical Science and participation in the Science Fair.

Physical science includes Newton’s Laws of Motion, chemical notation, the Periodic Table and Energy forces.

Mathematics:

Math in grade 8 includes Pre-algebra, geometry, percentage and Probability. The students will use a graphing calculator.
